DELTA PHI UPSILON FRATERNITY INC APOLOGY

The Delta Phi Upsilon Apology

By:Bro. Reginald R. Larkin II
I’m sorry you’re not the phrist, the boldest, wisest, the oldest/ I’m sorry that in my presence you see the essence of what you aspire to be/ red and gold , oh red and gold , I love to wear my red and gold/ I’m sorry that when your with your man you can’t stand the way he stops and stares/ I’m sorry you see my dignity as conceit and it hurts you to think that you really want to be ME!/ red and gold, red and gold , I love to wear my red and gold/ head held high this DELTA you won’t deny because I walk with grace and you can’t mistake that red and gold, oh red and gold.
I’m sorry you don’t know true brotherhood, the friendship we have can’t be understood/ while you glare with malice and sharpen your talons / we grow and thrive and continue to provide a way for the gay man to stand up and take his rightful place/ red and gold , red and gold , I love to wear my red and gold/ I’m sorry you didn’t cross into to DELTA land / I’m sorry you just can’t comprehend/ I’m sorry that you struggle with your internal conflict that fails to let you admit that you want to be ME!/ you want to wear that red and gold , red and gold, I’m sorry my friend but until you mend you own personal rift you will never wear/ red and gold , oh red and gold.

DEFINE POWER

SO I CHECK MY MENTORS FACE BOOK PAGE AS I DO OFTEN AND HE (DR.CORNELL WEST) HAS THIS STATUS “ The problem in the modern world is that people usually define power in terms of might…military might (Imperial Mentality). As a Christian, I define radical freedom as radical love, which APPEARS to be relatively powerless in a world where military might appears to rule.”

I AM CURIOUS IN DISCOVERING WHAT OTHERS FROM DIFFERENT PARTS OF THE WORLDS DEFINITIONS OF POWER. I MY SELF AGREE WITH HIM AS ONE WHO HAS BEEN ON THIS RELIGOUS JOURNY OF ISLAM.

Do you know how it feels to be a problem?”

In W.E.B. DuBois famous book “The Soul of Black Folk,” he utters this phrase: “Do you know how it feels to be a problem?” I don’t yet fully understand how it feels to be the problem. As I progress in this place I live called America I believe that it is evident that me as and African American gay man is becoming less and less the problem everyday. I believe there is a lot of work to do to get poeple of color to understand that you dont have to feel like the problem because over the years a people who happens to be the minority in the world told you so. Through all the turmoil and discrimination my people have faced in a  nation that they pratically built on their backs I am proud to say that if I am the problem I am happy to cause a stir. As long as I am seen as the threat or the so called problem the masses will continue to look at the greatness tha comes along with a man like me.

WHEN IS IT OKAY TO PLAY SOUND BITES THAT MAY OFFEND SOME?

I BELIEVE YOU SHOULD ALWAYS PLAY SOUND BITES THAT OFFEND PEOPLE AND START A STIR. IT IS IMPORTANT THAT PEOPLE ARE AWARE OF EVERYTHING THAT HAPPENS AND SAID THAT JUST MIGHT BE OFFENSIVE TO THEM. NO ONE WOULD EVER ACT IF THEY NEVER KNOW SOME THINGS ARE SAID. LIKE THE DON IMUS SITUATION THOSE GIRLS WOULD HAVE NEVER KNOWN THAT PEOPLE FELT THE WAY THEY FEEL IF MEDIA WOULD HAVE NEVER AIRED IT. I DO BELIEVE THAT IT IS IMPORTANT TO LET ALL PARTIES INVOLVED EXPRESS THEIR POINT OF VIEWS AND PUT TO USE THAT BILL OF RIGHTS THAT HELPS GOVERN US.
